Cyprus, as a member of the United Nations since the 20th of September 1960, firmly supports the role of the United Nations and its Charter and believes in the importance of UN resolutions.

 

 

The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) was established with the consent of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus on the 27th of March 1964. The creation of the Force was envisaged in UN resolution 186/1964, following the outbreak of inter - communal violence on the island and the threat of immediate intervention by Turkey.

 

 

UN Operation in Lebanon (UNIFIL)

The UN Operation in Lebanon, UNIFIL, was launched on the 23rd of March 1978, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions 425, 426 (1978).

The Republic of Cyprus participates with two officers of the National Guard from 2007 onwards, following a relevant decision of the Council of Ministers.
