On January 10, 2017, the Cyprus Security and Defence Academy was established in the Ministry of Defence as part of the reorganisation and modernisation of the Cyprus National Guard. The Academy aims to train its personnel in Security and Defence matters continuously.

Between 2017-2020, the Academy organised activities and created a local network. At the same time, they signed Memoranda of Understanding with almost all the universities in Cyprus and two university institutions in Greece.

From 2020 until today, the Academy have been strengthening its international network through various educational activities and institutional and bilateral meetings of the broader security and defence sector at tactical, strategic and political levels. In 2022 it became a full member of the International Military Academic Forum, which consists of 24 Military and Diplomatic Academies.
